Transplant #2 and week one

Monday, September 9, 2013 was Eric's Transplant day. It went a lot smoother than last time. Eric's nurse this time was better at giving him medicine to make sure that he was comfortable and wouldn't have any problems. The medicine made him really sleepy so he mainly slept through it this time. So much better than being sick!

Happy Re-Birthday to Eric. HEY! I don't think that they offered him a cake this time....hmm

Eric seemed to be okay on Tuesday and Wednesday. Slightly slower on our walks together and took anti-nausea medicine before eating dinner just to be sure that it would stay down because looking at/smelling it made him uneasy. Eric has received potassium and magnesium to help replace lost electrolytes.

This morning Eric said that he is starting to have slight stomach pains and feeling weak. His platelets started to drop yesterday and this morning he had a transfusion of them. He is on the anemic side but no need for a transfusion yet. Eric's white blood cell count dropped and he has no neutrophils (soldiers). so the chemo has caught up with him. With Eric's stomach being upset he has wanted to stay on a slow drip on I.V. fluids to help stay hydrated. The nurse at the time said that it was a first to have a patient request to be put back on I.V.. A test came back clean of bugs so he is able to have medicine to also help. These next few days maybe a little rough. Hopefully they pass quickly. Dr. Mitchell thinks that he may graft as early as this weekend. We hope so!

Tonight when I walked in Eric's room for my evening visit he was wrapped up like a mummy and said that he was freezing cold. So I got him a wrm blanket and the nurse took his temp. Needless to say Eric has a bit of a fever which is normal to see at this point so they are taking blood cultures and switching preventative antibiotics to treatment dose.
